Hello friend!

The OSN 8800 of version V100R002 or later is a synchronous system, requiring that all service boards and cross-connect boards are synchronized (with the same frequencies and aligned frame headers). Therefore, a unique reference clock signal and a unique frame header are required. To meet this requirement, each service board outputs services according to the clock signal and frame header of a clock board. Therefore, the STG board is mandatory for the OSN 8800 of version V100R002 or later. If no STG board is configured, centralized service scheduling cannot be achieved. The OSN 6800 is an asynchronous system and does not require a unique reference clock or unique frame header. Therefore, no STG board needs to be configured for the OSN 6800.

Good day!

Hi there!

The STG board is a type of clock board, which locks the reference clock source and provides clock signals and frame signals to the system. The clock signals comply with ITU-T G.813 and ITU-T G.823. The STG board can apply to the optical-layer and electrical-layer scenarios.

When the universal platform subrack or OSN 6800 subrack needs to use the IEEE 1588v2 or physical clock synchronization function, the STG board must be configured. Two STG boards need to be configured. The two STG boards work in active/standby mode.

Thanks!

Clock board like STG board is not only required for 8800 Subrack but also for all  next generation DWDM subrack.

In every subrack(8800,9800,1800 etc), there is clock board that could be unique or functionality could be built in with others boards. Due to space saving - clock card functionality built in with others card is a common phenomenon now a days. Today's 5G era, strict sync requirements(phase) is mandatory - all intermediate transmission device(DWDM) must support sync functionally but before 5G all DWDM device could transparently pass the clock signal through services - no need to process any clock signal. To support sync functionality ,clock board needs to lock the reference clock source and provides clock signals and frame signals to the system. The clock signals comply with ITU-T G.813 and ITU-T G.823.

For instance, OSN 9800 Universal Platform Subrack also  required clock board same as 8800(STG board).

On the contrary, in  comparatively new type of subrack like OSN 9800 U64/U32 there are also clock board  built in with SCC called CTU: system control and communication board with the clock processing function.
