The SNMP V3 is more secure than the V2.

However, the V3 is not easy to configure. In addition, the customer is familiar with the V2.

Therefore, a large number of users on the currect network use the V2.

Figura 1-1 Topology of the device and NMS

Configuration Script

snmp-agent community write cipher Admin@123
snmp-agent sys-info version v2c
snmp-agent target-host inform address udp-domain params securityname cipher Admin@123 v2c

//securityname is used by the NMS to identify devices that send traps.SNMPv3 requires that securityname must be the same as the user name, and must be configured on both the device and NMS. The NMS can receive traps from a device only after passing the securityname verification (in both authentication and encryption modes).

SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c do not require securityname verification; therefore, securityname can be different from the community name.

securityname is configured using the snmp-agent target-host trap, snmp-agent target-host inform or snmp-agent target-host trap ipv6 command.

The following example shows how to set the securityname of a device to comaccess.

snmp-agent trap enable

SNMP V3 is more secure than SNMPV2. If customers do not have special requirements, SNMPV3 is recommended for newly deployed networks.

It will be better if you can show the difference of configuration of SNMP v2 and v3.
