As the name implies, the administrator has permission to manage the SMIS service. For example: Start, stop, and change the permission of the SMIS service. Common users only have permission granted by the administrator. For example, the read-only user has permission to query the SMIS service status.

Hello,
The Service Location Protocol (SLP) is used by SMI-S clients to discover the SMI-S service
CIMOM on a storage network. During the discovery, clients obtain the address and
capabilities of the SMI-S service, and can then use the CIM Operations over HTTP protocol
to communicate with the SMI-S service.
After SMIS-S registers its IP address, port number, and service type with SLP, clients can
obtain such information using SLP and then communicate directly with SMI-S.
The following is an example of the registration:
service:wbem:https://100.133.23.133:5989

SMI-S Provider Configuration
SMI-S Provider is embedded in storage devices and does not need to be installed
independently. It is embedded in the service processor (SVP) of the OceanStor 18000 series,
and is accessible using the IP address of the SVP's management port. It is embedded in the
controllers of the OceanStor T series, and is accessible using the IP addresses of controllers'
management ports. The port for SMI-S Provider is 5989 (accessible through HTTPS). The
users of SMI-S Provider are local array users.
SMI-S Provider is not enabled by default in OceanStor T series and V3 series. You can run the
following command-line interface (CLI) commands to view the service status as well as
enable and disable the SMI-S Provider service.

To check whether the SMI-S service is running:
show smis status

To enable the SMI-S service:
change smis status status=start

To disable the SMI-S service:
change smis status status=stop
