Thin Provisioning

Thin
provisioning provided by the storage system offers applications with
much more virtual storage space than that is actually available on
physical storage devices, delivering much higher storage space
utilization than traditional provisioning.

As shown in Figure 1-1, with thin provisioning, physical space is allocated to applications only when data is written into volumes.
