Hello there, everyone!
There is a funny, yet pensive saying in Romanian that, if translated, goes 'Build yourself a cart in the winter and a sled in the summer'.It basically implies that, no matter how the future unfolds, one should always be prepared. Ideally, even one step ahead.
This brings us to today's topic, which is about the futuristic project called 'Smart City' and how Huawei Enterprise is building tomorrow's infrastructure. According to Kevin Liu, General Manager Huawei Technologies Romania, 'Smart City is a concept that aims to strealime, via IT&C solutions, the interactions between its inhabitants, administration and local businesses'. A large-scale project that not only harvests humanity's deepest imaginative roots, but aims to question the status quo related to how humans live, Smart City is to definitely going to be... interesting - to say the least.
In the lines to come I will be touching base on the main points of how Huawei Enterprise is building tomorrow's infrastructure.
SMART CITY VIA AI

Where humans fail, robots step in. With daily urban problems like overwhelming pollution and traffic jams which hit enterprises where it hurts the most (precious resources like money, time and energy being wasted), there is definitely a need for digitalization when it comes to sustainable resource allocation and depolyment. Therefore, Huawei proposes a centralized, powerful AI engine to be the 'brain' of the city, providing real-time solutions to 'human' problems inevitably happening throughout the city, while also seeking ways for the Smart City to improve and evolve.
Fields like urbanism, sustainable energy, public transportation or safety have already started implementing AI solutions for various reasons - economic model development, more accurate science-based decision-making, etc. This seems to be working surprisingly well, as studies show that, for example, in the Longgang District of the Chinese metropolis Shenzhen, crime rate decreased by almost 30% in just one year after the implementation of an AI-integrated Video Cloud system! Some way of how Huawei Enterprise is building tomorrow's infrastructure, right?
SMART CITY VIA CLOUD COMPUTING & IoT

Another method of how Huawei Enterprise is building tomorrow's infrastructure is the fact that Smart Cities would run on futuristic Cloud Computing & Internet-of-Things (IoT) technologies. The 'Smartification' of cities, as this phenomenon is called in the industry, harmoniously employs elements from the two in order to carry out the newly-established urbanistic strategy.
So, with regards to the IoT component, we're looking at the implementation of real-time urbanistic processes. How? Basically, as the name beautifully suggests, everything would be connected with everything - infrastructure, energy, manufacturing - while also being wired to the city's 'Motherboard' - the central unit that receives, analyses and releases commands in accordance with particular urban needs. On the other hand, Cloud Computing can help in terms of overall Smart City Cloud strategy, easing data storage and access and making services such unified communications and e-governance available.
SMART CITY VIA BIG DATA

One of the most (if not THE most!) important layers of a Smart City is, undoubtedly, Big Data. This layer, because it allows for features like situational reports, monitoring activities and comprehensive governance, can come in handy when developing the smart urbanistic planning.
Through Big Data, the Smart City would benefit from a unified base map, or instant data sharing (to avoid unnecessary construction for example). Big Data optimizes processes, supporting more than reasonable decision-making. Studies show that process efficiency improves by 50% after using Big Data, an argument that supports the use in Smart City development.
These are but few things of how Huawei Enterprise is building tomorrow's infrastructure. I hope the content was enjoyable and that it sheds some more light on the Smart City project Huawei as a whole has in mind for the future.
