Hi everyone

I have an OSN 500 device I want to convert from STM-1 to STM-4

Is it possible?

Hello, friend!

STM-N is the SDH transmission class. The transmission rates of STM-1 and STM-4 are different.

An STM-N frame consists of N STM-1 frames by byte. The STM-N frame is transmitted at a rate of 8000 frames per second regardless of the frame size. One STM-1 frame contains 3x9 regenerator section overheads (RSOHs). 5. 5x9 MSOH, 1x9 management unit pointer (AU-PTR), and 9x260 payload. Therefore, the rate of STM-1 is 155 Mbit/s and that of STM-4 is 622 Mbit/s.

If you convert STM-1 to STM-4 on the OptiX OSN 500, you can replace the optical module on the port of the board.

The detailed operations are as follows:

Prerequisites

You are an NM user with Operator Group rights or higher.

The type and position of the board to be replaced must be confirmed.

The old board and the new board have the same software version, and the new board does not contain any configurations.

Impact on System

If the board is not configured with protection, replacing the board may cause service interruption on the board.

If the board is configured with protection at the network level, replacing the board does not affect services if the switching is performed normally.

Tools, Equipment, and Materials

Shielding bag, fiber extraction tool, and U2000

Precautions

 NOTE:

When you replace a line board, make sure that the wavelength of the new board is the same as that of the original board.

Procedure

1. Select a spare part.

Select the spare board that has the same parameters as the board to be replaced.

If the board to be replaced supports the board version replacement function, check for substitute boards.

2. Query and record the current alarms of the board.

3. Query the network protection configuration. Check whether the equipment is configured with protection on the NMS. If the equipment is not configured with protection, replace the board and ensure that the new board works normally. The following example describes how to query the MSP protection.

a. Choose Service > SDH Protection Subnet > SDH Protection Subnet Maintenance from the Main Menu.

b. Select an MSP protection subnet in the left pane. Then, the status of each node in the protection subnet is displayed in the right pane.

c. Click Query to query the switching status of each node.

4. If the switching is not performed, start the network switching. The following example describes how to start the MSP protection switching.

a. Right-click the icon of the NE and choose NE Explorer.

b. Choose Configuration > Ring MS from Function Tree.

c. In Slot Mapping Relation, select the board to be replaced. Right-click the board and choose Exercise-Ring from the shortcut menu. In the Operation Result dialog box that is displayed, click Close.

d. Choose Query > Query Switching Status. If the switching status of the node is displayed as Exercise-Ring, the MSP switching is normal.

e. Query the alarms and performance events on the NMS. Check whether there are any new alarms and performance events besides the alarms (such as the APS_INDI alarm) generated in the exercise switching. If there are no new alarms and performance events and the services are normal, the switching is successful.

f. Select the board to be replaced. Right-click the board and choose Forced Switching to Protection-Ring from the shortcut menu. In the Operation Result dialog box that is displayed, click Close.

g. Click Query > Query Switching Status. If the switching status of the node is displayed as Forced Switching-ring, the MSP switching is normal.

NOTE:

When you choose Forced Switching to Protection-Ring, the APS_INDI alarm is reported.

5. Remove the faulty board.

NOTE:

When you remove or install the board, the BD_STATUS or COMMUN_FAIL alarm is reported. After the new board is online, the alarms are cleared automatically.

6. Clear the MSP switching through the NMS.

a. Right-click the icon of the NE and choose NE Explorer.

b. Choose Configuration > Ring MS from Function Tree.

c. Check whether the board works normally. Check the STAT indicator on the board. If the indicator is on and green and the board reports no alarm, the board works normally.

d. Select the replaced board. Right-click the board and choose Clear from the shortcut menu. In the Operation Result dialog box that is displayed, click Close.

e. Choose Query > Query Switching Status. If the switching status of the node is displayed as Normal, the MSP switching is cleared.

7. Check whether the board works normally.

a. Check the STAT indicator on the board. If the indicator is on and green, the board works normally.

b. Query the alarms of the board and check whether there are any new abnormal alarms.

c. Perform the exercise switching and check whether the exercise switching is performed normally.

Thanks!

hi,
yes you can , it is so easy just right click on the SL1D then choose (( Replace Board Type )) the choice of SL4D will appear , choose it then replace the SFPs and make upload .

but take care , if you want to get back to SL1D you must then to use commandline and to delete all the configuration first

regards

Thanks to all the friends who write their answers here

A very complete friend explained the transfer process

I know how the transfer process works

But the feature

<<Replace board type>> I did not understand?

Will the control board be converted to SL4D and will be able to communicate with the STM-4 device but can only transfer up to a maximum of 155M bandwidth?

hi,
the ISU board of OSN500 is compact board consist of sevral functional boards in one .
that means it works as( crossconnection board , control and communication board , clock board , and line board )
the board has the capabilty to work to capacity up to 2×STM4 , but according to the customer order the OSN500 comes equiped with SLD1 .
when change it to SLD4 you change the line board to SLD4 , and then you must change SFP to STM4 and make upload.
all other things still the same.

of course the board will be able to communicate with STM4 line boards and also you will be able to configure up to 622M is each STM4 port of the SLD4 .

Hello my friend
I think your comment is wrong
Because when we change the Replace board type from SL1D to SL4D
I still have 63 time slots
This means that in principle there has been no total change
And only the type of communication has changed

hi ,
I have tried this many times , you must make upload and then try again .
