Hello,

I need to change the Ploam Password on this SFP MINI-ONT but I can't find any documentation on how to do it, can you please help me?

Just for clarity, I'm talking about the SFP ONT not the external one: https://www.huawei.com/ucmf/groups/public/documents/webasset/hw_415752.pdf

thanks a lot!

Hi, friend!
The SFP ONT must work with the OLT. If you cannot access the OLT, MA5671A cannot be used.

Thank you, my friend!
If you need device documents, you need to upgrade the account permission. For details about the account permission upgrade, click:

thanks @Chenxintao for the link and procedure, unfortunately I tried that already but my application was rejected because the product is registered to "Carrier BG", but I purchased this product from my ISP directly so I was not allowed to access the documentation unfortunately.

Hi, friend!
Because this is an enterprise community. Therefore, I cannot directly obtain documents for you. However, you can visit the carrier product documentation. If you still cannot access the product documentation, you can only obtain documents from the ISP.

Dear friend!

You can try the following scheme. If you still can't modify it, you can only contact the person who manages OLT to ask for help.

WAP>set userpasswd root
old password:
new password:
reenter new password:
Password of root has been modified successfully!
success!

Note:In the command line interface, passwords are not usually displayed on the screen.

Thanks!

Dear friend!
To modify the password of SFP ONU, it is necessary to operate on OLT.

After logging in with the original password, try to run the terminal user password command to modify the password, for example:

huawei#terminal user password
  Old password(<=15 chars):
  New password(length<6,15>):
  Confirm Password(length<6,15>):
  Information takes effect
  Repeat this operation? (y/n)[n]:n

Thanks!

sorry @E.DR_91 , I'm not sure where I shoud "click", it seems your suggestion is for some kind of web gui of some other product, not for MA5671A SFP Module, it doesn't have a web interface and it definitely doesn't have a wifi module. Thanks anyway.

hello, @liqiang185  thank you for your reply, unfortunately I don't have access to the OLT, but only to the SFP ONT and I need to update the password on my module, can you suggest the correct procedure to configure the Ploam Password on the ONT side?

I have access to the module via ssh and the root login credentials but I don't know the command to run in order to update the password, I can only see the current configuration using the "Configuration" command and it seems the password is not configured as it's set to "00000000000000000000":

# Configuration
Page: Configuration
OPTIONVALUE
BIP error interval           4095
Signal Fail threshold         5
Signal Degrade threshold       9
ONU response time            35766
PLOAM password                000000000xxxxxxxx
GEM block length              48
Maximum GEM payload size US  4095
Maximum PDU size DS         ETH:0x07xx OMCI:0x07xx IP:0xffxx MPLS:0xffxx
LAN GPHY firmware mode       2
MDIO data rate                2
MDIO interface enable          yes
[0] LAN port enable        yes

can you kindly advise the correct command to update the PLOAM password on the ONT side?

thanks!

Hello again @liqiang185  and thanks for your reply.

I tried the command you gave me but it's not recognized by the ONT:

% ssh root@192.168.1.10
root@192.168.1.10's password:
 Welcome Visiting Huawei Home Gateway
Copyright by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
# set userpasswd root
unknown variable [userpasswd]

please keep in mind I'm not trying to change the root user password, but the "ploam password".

I tried asking help to who has access to the OLT (my current ISP) but unfortunately they refuse to help.

If there's no other way to do it on SFP side, Is there any way I could access the MA5671A documentation myself to understand better how this works? I tried downloading it from Huawei website, but I don't currently have an enterprise subscription because I purchased this module from my previous ISP and without any documentation I'm not able to properly configure it with my new ISP.

Again, thank you very much, any help is very appreciated!

Hi, friend!
Can you provide the ONT authentication mode (SN authentication or LOID authentication)?

Hello @Chenxintao , thanks for your reply! The only authentication I need to configure to authenticate with the OLT is the Ploam Password, but I don't know how to configure that on the MA5671A, is it something that can be done via a specific command on SSH? Because I can access to the MA5671A via ssh but I can't find the correct command to issue to change the ploam password. Is there any way to do it? I'm using a media converter to connect to the SFP via ssh.
thanks!

Hi, friend!

You can run the display ont info command to query the ONT information. After confirming the ONT authentication mode, you can reply with how to change the PLOAM password. The PLOAM password is the password generated during ONT authentication.

ont

Hello @Chenxintao and thanks for your reply!
I tried your command but it seems it's not supported by the MA5671A SFP, this is the output:

root@192.168.1.10's password:
Welcome Visiting Huawei Home Gateway
Copyright by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
# display ont info 0 0
Do not support the command.
#

I'm connecting to the SFP module directly using a media converter and I need to change the PLOAM Password configured on the module and I know the correct one to set, can you help? thanks

Hi, friend!
You need to run this command on the OLT to query the authentication mode. You cannot directly query the authentication mode of the device through SSH login.
You can obtain the device authentication mode from the ISP because the OLT uses the last 10 bytes of the LOID as the password of the PLOAM when performing LOID authentication based on the PLOAM.
Therefore, you need to confirm the authentication mode of the device first.
