This time, I will share with you a case about services are interrupted due to improper client settings.
Problem Description
The following figure shows the service, both OSN 1800V devices are connected to the IP router, but the traffic is still not up.

Handling Process
The possible causes of service interruption are as follows:
1. The physical line is interrupted.
2. The hardware model and specifications do not match.
3. The parameter settings are incorrect.
4. Hardware fault.
By checking the alarms, the user finds that the client side of the WDM link reports LOCAL_FAULT & REM_SF alarms at both ends.
LOCAL_FAULT alarm means receive the signal from client side (the router in our case) is interrupted, and REM_SF alarm means the remote station has an issue on the client side, so REM_SF will be cleared once LOCAL_FAULT is cleared.
It's possible that the client side signal corruption, or configuration mismatch with client side device.
Therefore, we need to check the configurations of the routers at both ends.
Finally, the user finds that the FEC configuration of the router is incorrect. After the configuration is corrected, the service is normal.
Root Cause
The FEC configuration of the router is incorrect.
Solution
Change the FEC configuration of the router
Summary
The forward error collection modes of the two connected interfaces must be the same. Otherwise, error packets and packet loss may occur.
