Server to Server migration architecture1.svg

Preparations before migration:

-> Obtain the AK/SK pair of your HUAWEI CLOUD account.

        - AK/SK can be obtained from My Credentials.,

-> Install the agent on the source server

        (This post covers migration of Linux Machine.)

-> Download the agent on the source server.

      -To download use this command

      wget -t 3 -T 15

-> Decompress the downloaded package

    tar -zxvf SMS-Agent.tar.gz

-> Switch to the SMS-Agent directory of the source server

    cd SMS-Agent

-> Start the Agent

-> Enter y, and press Enter.

-> AK/SK pair of your HUAWEI CLOUD account for verification

-> Go to the server migration service > servers. Inside servers we will see a source server template that we just created using agent om the source server.

-> After that locate the server to be migrated and configure in the target column of that server.

-- Configure basic settings--

-> set a migration template name

-> Select network type to public if you are connecting using EIP else select private but for private you will be needing DC connection, VPN connections or VPC peering Connection and VPC subnets in advance.

-> For migration limit you can set the limit as needed based on the bandwidth of the source server and service requirements.

-> For Migration method - select Linux file level (Synchronization is performed file by file respectively).This  method has low efficiency but excellent compatibiltiy.

-> Set continuous synchronization to NO.

-> Set Partition Resizing to no to disk partition on the target server.

-- Configure Target --

 In the configure Target display

-> select region accordingly

-> enter a project name

-> In server option we have two options

  - Use existing: selects the existing ecs server built previously

  - Create during migration: creates ecs during the migration process

Note :The security group of the VPC that the target server is in must be correctly configured. It must be configured to allow access on TCP ports 88998900, and 22 for Windows and on ports 8900 and 22 for Linux.

-> click confirm

Now start a full migration .

-> Now click on launch target

-> Check whether the Status has changed to Finished. If it has, the target server has been launched and the migration is complete

In this way server to server migration is achieved in Huawei Cloud.
