In the cross-connect grooming of the SDH equipment, the cross-connect board can use one VC4 as the cross-connect granularity or four VC4s (VC-4 4c) as the cross-connect granularity. The advantage of using four VC-4s as cross-connect granularities is that only a part of the bandwidth of the first VC-4 is needed to transmit overhead management bytes, and the rest can be used to transmit service signals.
