HiCoins as reward: 0 (problem unresolved)

Are SDH and MSTP two different technologies? If yes, What is the difference between the SDH equipment and the MSTP Equipment? What do we get in MSTP that we don't get in SDH ?

Dear friend!

SDH and MSTP are not two different technologies. MSTP is developed on the basis of SDH. The SDH equipment supports only client-side access to the PDH and SDH service network. The MSTP equipment supports Ethernet services, ATM services, PCM services, and more powerful redundancy protection functions besides PDH and SDH services. Therefore, the Ethernet services, ATM services, PCM services, and more powerful redundancy protection functions supported by the MSTP equipment are not supported by the traditional SDH equipment.

Hello friend! FYI.

Generally, the MSTP line board provides multiple STM-1 channels. For example, the SL16 board provides 16 STM-1 channels. If an STM-1 SDH signal needs to be transmitted, the cross-connect board forwards it to the first STM-1 channel of the SL16 board. If Ethernet signals need to be transmitted at the same time, the Ethernet board encapsulates the Ethernet signals received from the client equipment into SDH signals. Then, the cross-connect board forwards the traffic to the second STM-1 channel of the SL16 board.

SDH

Of course, through manual service configuration, the first STM-1 (VC4-1) of the SL16 board may not be used to transmit the signals of the SLO1 board. The signals can also be transmitted through other channels, which cannot conflict with other services. One timeslot channel can transmit the services of only one client equipment.

The total bandwidth on the line side must be greater than or equal to the total bandwidth on the client side.
