HiCoins as reward: 1 (problem unresolved)

Hi Guys,

Could you please explain, what is diffrent between Linear and non-Linear scattering in optical fiber ?

Thanks in advance

Hi.

Linear scattering includes Rayleigh scattering and scattering caused by imperfect fiber structure.

Rayleigh scattering is a basic scattering process and belongs to intrinsic scattering. This is caused by the uneven density of silicon dioxide in the optical fiber.

The defects of fiber structure include incomplete interface between fiber core and cladding, change of core diameter, uneven roundness, residual bubbles and cracks in fiber, etc.

There are two kinds of nonlinear scattering in the fiber, which are related to the vibrational excited state of the quartz fiber, namely stimulated Raman scattering and stimulated Brillouin scattering.

Therefore, the root causes of linear scattering and nonlinear scattering are different.

Thanks!

I have other questions, I would be grateful if you answer them.
could you please tell me what is difference between stimulated Raman scattering and stimulated Brillouin scattering as well?
and a little bit explain about their root causes?
Thanks in advance

Brillouin scattering is different from Raman scattering in that small energy element excitations, such as acoustic phonons and magnetic oscillators, are studied in Brillouin scattering. Raman scattering is an inelastic scattering generated by the interaction of molecular vibration and optical phonons in solids with excited light.
