Three SNMP versions are available: SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3. SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c have security risks; therefore, SNMPv3 is recommended for device discovery.
Configuration commands vary according to device models and versions. The following takes Huawei S9700 V200R003C00 as an example.
If the device uses the SNMPv1/v2c protocol
1.Run the system-view command to open the system view.
2.Optional: Run the snmp-agent command to enable the SNMP Agent service.
3.By default, the SNMP agent function is disabled. By executing the snmp-agent command with any parameter enables the SNMP agent function.
Run the snmp-agent sys-info version { { v1 | v2c }* } command to set the SNMP version.
By default, SNMPv3 is enabled.
After SNMPv1 or SNMPv2c is enabled, managed devices support both SNMPv1/v2c and SNMPv3, and can be monitored and managed by NMSs that comply with SNMPv1/v2c and SNMPv3.
4.Run the following command to set read and write community names:
