S6700 auto negotiation

Latest reply: Jul 17, 2014 10:39:12 5644 4 0 0

I have just received my first 2 Huawei switches, the S6700.

Unfortunately I am having problems connecting clients to the switch as it appears the switch does not support auto-negotiation.

I am running version V100R006C00SPC800, with patch V100R006SPH017.

When trying to enable auto-negotiation on a port I get the following error:

Error: This port or this mode doesn't support this command.

Any idea how I can enabled auto-negotiation on this switch?

Hi Paul,

Auto negotiation is fully supported and is switched on by default.

You can disable it using the "undo negotiation auto" command on the interface.

You can then manually specify a speed and duplex setting using the "speed xxx" and the "duplex xxx" commands.

The ports support auto negotiation of speed, duplex and mdi/mdix by default and I have never seen any negotiation issues on these switches!

You also have the "virtual-cable-test" command to test for cable problems on the link, although this is service affecting.

Have you tried connecting the switches to each other or from port to port on a switch to prove the cables and the ports come up?

Regards Nigel
