S5700-LI second vlan interface down IP routing not working

Hello,

I have a S5700-28X-LI.   Reading the product spec sheets says this switch supports static routing.

I understand this to mean that it supports multiple vlan interfaces with different IP addresses and ability to add static routes.

I have configured an IP address on vlan 1 (via DHCP) and the default gateway is also on this network. This interface in vlan 1 is up.

I have configured a 2nd vlan interface in vlan 10. But this interface is always down. What other command can I do to bring this interface up? I have configured a physical port to be in vlan 10, and there is something plugged into this port so the port and vlan 10 are both up.

See the following config...

interface Vlanif1
 ip address dhcp-alloc
#
interface Vlanif10
 ip address 192.168.32.254 255.255.255.0

Interface                         IP Address/Mask      Physical   Protocol
NULL0                             unassigned           up         up(s)
Vlanif1                           10.125.10.68/24      up         up
Vlanif10                          192.168.32.254/24    down       down

GigabitEthernet0/0/10       up    up           0%     0%          0          0
GigabitEthernet0/0/11       down  down         0%     0%          0          0
GigabitEthernet0/0/12       up    up           0%     0%          0          0

interface GigabitEthernet0/0/12
 description access port vlan 12
 port link-type access
 port default vlan 12

ip route-static 10.56.56.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.32.1

Why isn't interface vlan 10 up and routing?

Thanks, Simon

If there is no active  port in vlan 10, the interface vlan 10 won't be up.

Besides why the interface vlan 1 is always up, because all the ports are in vlan 1 by default. Any active port would make the interface vlan 1  up.

Hi Simon,

Is that a typo in your configuration, you are talking about VLAN 10 interface not coming up but you have shown interface Gi0/0/12 in VLAN 12?

Regards Nigel

Thanks for the help guys, yes was all my fault after all. Typo on the vlan ids.

I can confirm that a 5700-LI can do static routing. It makes me wonder why people would pay the extra to buy the SI switches especially if they don't need RIP. Are there any other features in in the SI that are not in the LI I wonder?

Cheers
