Hello, everyone!

Huawei Cloud Stack running VM can't modify specification after wrongly changed the flavor type from "Cloud Disk" to a "Local Disk". The post will share with you how to solve the issue.

Issue Description

1. The VM (A) originally deployed using “Cloud Disk”.  Afterward the running VM (A) was manually modified the flavor to “Local Disk” in ServiceOM using unrecognized method. Currently, the VM (A) couldn't change back the flavor which belongs to “Cloud Disk”.

2. In other words, Modify Specification for CPU and Memory option is not available. This option only allows in disk type “Cloud Disk” instead of "Local Disk".

3. The "modify specification" feature "grey-out", which unable to modify the specification of the VM (corp2). The reason is that the flavor has been modified from "Cloud Disk" to "Local Disk" flavor.

4. However, as you can see, the VM (corp2) is actually deployed as "Cloud Disk" type.

Handling Process

1. Locate the controller node where the VM was deployed to. Then login using the Putty or any CLI application.

2. Run the command "source set_env" and select 1st choice. Then type FusionSphere123 for the password.

3. Run the command "nova resize 'VM ID' 'FlavorName' " as shown in screenshot below.

This step is to modify the current "Local disk" Flavor to "Cloud disk" Flavor for the VM.

4. Wait around 1 or 2 minutes for the, then execute "nova resize confirm" to finalize the configuration.

5. After that, check the status of the VM on ManageOne SC, should be able to modify the specification as shown in the screenshot below:

Root Cause

1. User manually modifies the flavor of the from "Cloud" type to "Local" which causes the user unable to modify the specification of the VMs.

2. Once the VM changed to "Local Disk" flavor, this couldn't be changed back to "Cloud Disk" Flavor through GUI. (need to be done using CLI)**Note: modify specification this feature only available in "Cloud Disk" Flavor's VM.

Manually change the VM's flavor from "Cloud Disk" to "Local Disk" through CLI.
