Dears,

I have a question about these AP RTN510 ports ( GE, P&E, COMBO) :

I know that P&E is used to receive GE electrical and power signals, but what is the use case of GE and COMBO ports ? can you give me an exemple of using GE and COMBO please.

Hello friend!

COMBO port, as shown in the following figure, is an electrical Ethernet port. It is reserved as a multi-functional composite port.

A GE interface can be used only after an optical module is installed. Both GE ports and P&E ports provide transmission services. However, the P&E interface is an electrical interface. The maximum transmission distance of the P&E interface is 100 m. If the transmission distance exceeds 100 m, the signal will be attenuated. The GE interface is an optical interface. The maximum transmission distance of a GE port is 10 km (affected by the optical module). Therefore, the selection of GE ports and P&E ports depends on the actual environment.

Note: The P&E interface must be connected. The P&E interface does not use services but must supply power to the equipment.

Hope it helps you!

Hello Wissal,
I've already read this documentation, but i didn't get the use case of COMBO and GE ports in AP.
-COMBO is an UTPt port just like P&E, but it don't support POE, so I didn't figure out why we need it in our AP.
-GE is a fibre port but it doesn't support POE.

In summary, if P&E is enough to transmit services and power in the same time, what is the need of COMBO and GE ?

Hello Thomas,

Thank you, now the difference between GE and P&E is very clear ! But i still can't see the difference between COMBO and P&E.
Can you please give me an example of COMBO use case just like you did with GE and P&E ?

Simply put, if the other port fails, you can use the COMBO port as a backup port. By default, a COMBO port is an electrical port. You can also set the COMBO port as an optical port as required. However, optical ports and electrical ports cannot work at the same time.
