Routermode in OLT MA5800X2

Latest reply: Aug 26, 2020 06:56:59 707 6 0 0 0

Hi,

Has anyone used the build in router mode in the OLT MA5800X2?

If so, was it a success or shall we forget it?

We use ONT bridge units.

Thank you!

Dear Tomadsen!

The MA5800 functions as a large-capacity aggregation device on the network to aggregate the traffic from ONTs, MDUs, and campus switches, thereby simplifying the network architecture and reducing the OPEX.

It performs most of the functions of a router. It is strongly recommended that you use gateway ONTs during network construction, which is more flexible.

Thanks!

Yes I do understand the meaning with the OLT. But it has a function that you can configure it to hand over the IP adresses to the devices(ONTs and ONUs)
Is it recommended to do that or is it best to use a extern router for that?

Dear Tomadsen!
When constructing the FTTx application scenario, we need the OLT to have a flexible networking capability. Therefore, the basic router function is added to the OLT. For the configuration example, click the following link:

However, it cannot be used as a router. We recommend that you use a dedicated router.
