router B593s-22 poor 3G reception

Latest reply: Mar 26, 2020 12:00:12 9262 12 0 0 0

I have recently purchased a router B593s-22, hoping better reception than my E5332 (and more setting options), but I am facing the following issue.
When connected on a 3G network, the reception of the B593s-22 is always very poor.
But it seems having normal signal levels on 4G, 1-3 bars, what I was expecting at the locations chosen for testing.

I have made several tests in different locations with different 3G signal coverage, with or without external antenna (obviously activated in the router settings when connected) at each location and I always get only 1 bar of reception signal, except for once I got 2 bars for a moment.

As a comparison, I also have a mobile broadband device Huawei E5332 which was connected to the same network at the same time at all locations and always had 3-4 bars, using only the internal antenna…

How come the B593s-22 has such a poor 3G signal reception? And how come the E5332 has much better in the exact same situation? Is it normal?

How come the external antenna doesn't make any difference, even made it worse on one occasion? (The antenna covers the whole frequency range of the router...)

Any help will be much appreciated, as I had planned to use this device mostly on 3G networks.
As it is, it is nearly useless and I'm better off with my "old" E5332...
Thanks.

Huawei B593s-22 is known as its faster LTE speed. If you want better 3G speed, maybe E5332 satisfies you more.

Hi Wstyle,

Thanks for your comment. But as written in my post:

1) The location is irrelevant as:

I have made several tests in different locations with different 3G signal coverage ...

2) Buying an external antenna would make no difference as:

... with or without external antenna ...
and
... the external antenna doesn't make any difference ...

3) Setting up the router... Already done... :

... external antenna (obviously activated in the router settings when connected) ...

:-O ...................!!!!!!!!

Hi r9skuwiadw_from_linkedin,

Thanks for your comment. But as written in my post:

As written in my post, an external antenna made no difference:

I have made several tests in different locations with different 3G signal coverage, with or without external antenna (obviously activated in the router settings when connected) ...

:-O ...................!!!!!!!!

Nevertheless, I forgot to mention that the antenna I used was a MIMO type, meaning "two in one", main + diversity in one, with two connectors. But if I remember properly my search about the technical details of the router, the "second" antenna is used for diversity only on LTE/4G networks. As I could not find out which connector is for the main and which is for the diversity, I have also switched the two connections in my test... Making no difference on the 3G signal reception.

Hi jessciajones,

Yes, you are probably right and it is my own conclusion. The B593s-22 has been probably optimised for LTE/4G network but is not very good with 3G...

I have therefore returned the router B593s-22 and the external antenna and I continue using my old E5332 router, as I have only 3G networks where I usually use my router...

Hello,

I suppose the main problem is that the network signal is weak at your location. It's better to buy an outdoor antenna to strengthen the signal. By the way, did you setup the Huawei B593s-22? The stationary router is not necessary to have better signal than your Huawei E5332.

Thanks Gentleman - i was just about to buy the B593s-22 to set up a 3G Network with the future option LTE.

Its a pitty that you can´t have a true 3G and LTE router. Same with AVM by the way.

Funny - but i will go then for a B660 - looks like the best 3G router with external antenna port.

thanks again !

Best 3G UMTS router is probably the B683.

How about connecting two antennas for Huawei B593s-22 Router? Will the signal become stronger?

I bought a B593s-22 to connect to WIND 3G in Greece and it works.

My setup is external UMTS antenna (single cable), that I have connetced to the right antenna port of the B593s. Right side, if you view form front! Left antenna port is empty, I selected external antenna in settings, but automatic was working aswell.

The antenna display on front shows only 2 LEDs signal strength, and my guess is that since there is no 2G 3G 4G indicator, that 2 LEDs are the max for 3G?. Can someone confirm that he gets more than 2 LEDs with pure 3G? Would be intersting.

I did a speed test and got 13.7Mbits + 3.7Mbits (down + up), which falls in between HSDPA and HSDPA+.

WIND doesnt have LTE in my region, but maybe in future. Before the Huawei B593s-22 I was using the D-Link DWR512, a UMTS/HSPA+ router. I like the Huawei better, has a modern UI, works with Huwei iOS App and has stronger WIFI.

The thing I am missing with the Huawei is a signal strength information in dB.

Tom
