Hi Guys,

I want to know how to calculate the CPU resources consumption of BGP route prefixes.

What is the maximum bgp route prefixes NE40E-X3A can handle.

Thank you in advance guys.

Hi, @orlan_ortiz
for the first question, I think there is no such formula to calculate the CPU consumption of BGP route prefixes.
For the second question, I checked the documentation, no result is found, please contact with presale engineers to get the number of BGP routes supported.

Good day, @orlan_ortiz !

From the experience and observation:
- NE40E-X3A as Route-reflector can handle 3 BGP full views with about 50% memory consumption
(Again the numbers can vary if you use the same RD or different RD for VPN routes.)
- NE40E-X3A - as PE - could handle 1 million routes.

When received the BGP updates from peers (Full view) - NE40E routers put messages nto Adj-RIB one by one. After BGP messages are received from peer - can observed the CPU spike for upto 20-30% above the normal state. After BGP route-selection is finished - CPU is back to Normal level (+ or - 3%).

you can check the Memory used by BGP in the "Special" mode
display memory cid | inc BGP

Take care and have a great day!
Viktor

I also experience this, we set up an NE40E with 16gb memory, 3 ISP is connected that has full routes of about 720K route prefixes per each line.
I have monitored that CPU is about 30% utilized.

Thank you for your answer.

Best Regards,
