RH2288H.v3 storage controller questions

Greetings,


I have a RH2288H.v3 with a Mezzanine LSI SAS3108 card (LSI SAS3108 - Huawei V2 and V3 Server RAID Controller Card User Guide 47 - Huawei) . I have successfully upgraded the 3108 to a later FW -6.36.00.3. I can handle several different RAIDs from within the Megaraid Configuration Utility accessible from BIOS-POST.


So I have discovered two potential issues with this. They are not vital, but still cumbersome.


  1. Your link via the Manual Pages on this site, to get Megaraid Storage Manager for Windows, is not accurate, I can not find that software on the Broadcom site : Downloading MegaRAID Storage Manager - Huawei V2 and V3 Server RAID Controller Card User Guide 47 - Huawei

  2. In iBMC I am unable to manage the drives due to iBMA2 (Huawei iBMA Support Guide, Manuals & PDF – Huawei) not being installed. But I have installed it on the target server (-running Windows Server 2019) and yet it does not seem to work, despite iBMC service is running. I read through the troubleshooting, but frankly I don't get what is wrong.
    Information about the RAID controllers, logical drives, and SAS/SATA physical drives is displayed only after BIOS boot is complete when the RAID controller card supports out-of-band management or after iBMA 2.0 has been installed and started.

Question 1: you can do as follows download the MegaRAID Storage Manager.

1. Open the Broadcom website, and search MegaRAID Storage Manager.

search MegaRAID Storage Manager

2. Click the software version you need to download.

download the megaraid


Question 2: You can do as follows to solve the issue.

1. Please check if the iBMA Service is started as the user guide.

2. Restart the iBMC, if possible, you can restart the Server.

Thanks. Installed with those Java prerequisites... damn I hate Java...

PATH variables are somehow wrong in the recommended setup from Latest releases | Adoptium


%JAVA_HOME% is not the same as %JRE_HOME% and when correcting it in system variables is stíll won't work... not even when having both there. Had to skip the installation scripts and do it manually... 


Did I mention I hate java...?


All good after some fiddling, some storage capacity issues, but I may have to low level wipe some of the drives involved. Its a test setup after all.


What about my question on iBMA2?

I answered that, maybe not as explicitly.

Service can be restarted and I did check the manual. Any other troubleshooting tips?

So let me ask this: would it benefit me to have a working iBMA2, considering I shall use the server as a file share and I can do raid and other functions both in BIOS and via the iBMC console? 

What other functions depend on iBMA2?

If you use the server as a file share, the main function of the ibma is to enable the system to better obtain hardware information (such as RAID controller cards and IB cards) and configure RAID without restarting the system. Another advantage for file systems is that ibma can better detect storage system performance, such as I/O performance and faulty disks.
