Hi,

Could someone explain about RET, TMA configuration files, and software files.

Using commands DLD RETCFGDATA and DLD ALDSW they are downloaded to BTS or directly to RET, TMA devices? Why do we need to calibrate RET?

Hello friend!

RET calibration

The RET antenna performs position calibration and precision control based on the data configuration file and physical capabilities to ensure that all downtilts supported by the RET antenna can be correctly set. Calibration is mandatory after the RET antenna is installed. If this operation is ignored, the downtilt of the antenna will be affected and the network coverage will be affected.

TMA

A TMA is a low-noise amplification module that can be installed on a tower. By adjusting the TMA, you can amplify uplink signals and balance uplink and downlink signals. After the ALD is installed, you can set the TMA attributes to enable the ALD to work normally. When commissioning base stations during site deployment or adjusting gains in daily maintenance, you need to set the TMA attributes. TMA attributes include the working mode and gain of the TMA.

RET (Remote electrical tilt) and TMA (Tower-mounted amplifier).
RET or Remote Electrical Tilt is a feature found in Sector and Base Station Antennas that allow the tilt angle of the antenna to be controlled remotely. This way a technician does not need to climb a tower to adjust the angle of the antenna and can do so from the base station or a computer.

In a typical RET system the controller sends tilt commands to the motorized antenna actuator. The actuator alters the electrical downtilt by adjusting the phase shifter. Various RET system devices, including the antenna's actuators, are connected to the controller using control cables.

A Tower Mounted Amplifier (TMA), or Mast Head Amplifier (MHA), is a low-noise amplifier (LNA) mounted as close as practical to the antenna in mobile masts or base transceiver stations.

Tower mounted amplifiers (TMA) or masthead amplifiers (MHA) are installed near the receiver antenna, at the top of the cell tower, in order to increase the uplink sensitivity and improve the reception of weak signals.

Hi,
Thanks for the posts. Basically i was more curious about the operation of them. Are they like passive devices or active if they have software and configuration files loaded?
Where do we need to get these configuration files from? From antenna manufacturer?

Hello friend!
After the configuration is complete, the device is still active. Configuration files are required only for RET antennas. You can obtain the configuration file from the vendor. For more information, click on the link above.

Sorry for being so picky. Is ret file stored in base station, or it is stored in RET device itself? According to documentation: "After the file upload is complete, the base station obtains the configuration file from the MAE server and then applies the file" it should be stored in base station.
Where do i need to get file from? Antenna vendor or RET vendor? According to documentation: "You have obtained the configuration file of an RET from the ALD vendor" it should be RET

The RET device cannot store files. Therefore, the files must be stored on the base station and MAE. You can obtain the RET configuration file from the equipment supplier. If the supplier does not have the configuration file, contact the local Huawei office for support.

Ok, but do RET and TMA devices contains software, which can be shown by DSP ALDVER command? Or is it also stored in base station and MAE?

The RET is one of the functions of the base station cell, and the TMA is the hardware on the tower. Therefore, no software is included. However, you can query the device configuration on MAE.

What does then command DSP ALDVER shows?
Display ALD Version Information
-------------------------------
Device No. = 1
Device Name = 800_Az000_SEC1
Control Port Cabinet No. = 0
Control Port Subrack No. = 60
Control Port Slot No. = 0
Device Type = SINGLE_RET
Device Model = 86010148
Actual Device Serial No. = CSE3857261
Software Version = FW_V02.03.01
Hardware Version = HW_V_A00

This command is used to query the antenna version information.

I found in documentation this:
A.1.6 Querying the TMA Versions
You can run DSP ALDVER to query the software, hardware, and AISG protocol versions of a
TMA.
It means TMA and RET are active devices and antenna itself is passive device.

This command is used to query the version information of an antenna. The antenna is not associated with the RET or TMA. The RET and TMA are not antennas.
