Q&A: How interfaces are numbered on AR Router

Hi all,

On the AR, interfaces are numbered in the format of slot ID/subcard ID/interface sequence number.

  • The slot ID identifies in which slot a card is installed.

  • The slot ID of the SRU is 0.

  •  When slots need to be combined into one slot, a larger slot ID is used as the new slot ID. For example, when slot 1 and slot 2 are combined, slot ID 2 is used as the new slot ID.

  • The subcard ID specifies the ID of a subcard. The AR does not support subcards. Therefore, the subcard ID of the AR is always 0.

  • The interface sequence number indicates the sequence number of an interface on the AR.

  • There is only one row of interfaces on a card. These interfaces are numbered from left to right starting with 0.

  • There are two rows of interfaces on a card. These interfaces are numbered from top to bottom and left to right starting with 0.
