Pseudo-Wire Emulation Edge to Edge (PWE3) is a point-to-point (P2P) technology that transmits Layer 2 services on a multiprotocol label switching Layer 2 virtual private network (MPLS L2VPN). PWE3 simulates essential attributes of a service such as Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Frame Relay (FR), Ethernet, low-speed Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) circuit, Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), or Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) on a Packet Switched Network (PSN).
The same applies to PWE3 services on the NMS. PWE3 services on the NMS are classified into PWE3 heterogeneous interworking, PWE3 ETH, PWE3 CES, PWE3 ATM IWF, and PWE3 ATM services.

Dear User,
A pseudo wire emulation edge to edge (PWE3) service is a point-to-point connection on an MPLS L2VPN.
PWE3 provides methods for carrying network services such as ATM, frame relay, Ethernet, time division multiplexing (TDM), and synchronous optical network/synchronous digital hierarchy (SONET/SDH) over a packet switched network (PSN).
PWE3 is developed based on draft-martini-l2circuit-trans-mpls and in compliance with RFC 4447. Currently, PWE3 supports only FEC 128.

The PWE3 service on the NMS means the VPWS service, that is, E-line services carried over PWs.
