Hello, everyone!

This post will tell you one issue for Problems faced during up gradation from R6 to R8.

Problem description:

The Problem occurs when we have performed the software up gradation of OptiX OSN3500 from V100R006C02B014 to V100R008C02SPC200.
Following problem occurs at different station while up gradation.
1. PQ1 board have changed the status of “exceptional” while doing activation.
2. Due to Auto Screen Saver Option in Laptop the up loading package on Toolkit causes NE logout.
3. Before activating the new version the SSN2GSCC shows new uploaded version.
4. DCN was visible through the target NE, which was planned to be up graded.

 Handling procedure:

SUBCASE 1: PQ1 board have changed the status of “exceptional” while doing activation.

CAUSE for SUBCASE 1: No Cause.

SUBCASE 2: Due to Auto Screen Saver Option in Laptop the up loading package on Toolkit causes NE logout.

CAUSE for SUBCASE 2: The Screen Saver was enabled for non operation on PC for consecutive 10 Min, which makes the NE logout during the up loading process.

SUBCASE 3: Before activating the new version the SSN2GSCC shows new uploaded version.

CAUSE for SUBCASE 3: No Cause.

SUBCASE 4: DCN was visible through the target NE, which was planned to be up graded.

CAUSE for SUBCASE 4: DCN Cable was connected with a Switch, which was also connected with the server, so if we plug out the cable and put our cable on the same port for our PC connectivity then it makes the whole DCN visibility down.

Root cause:

NA.

Solution:

SUBCASE 1: PQ1 board have changed the status of “exceptional” while doing activation.

Handling Process for Case 1: When we have enter the Tab of software activation for PQ1, it starts the activation process but at 98% it get stuck and remain in the same position for more than 5 Min and after that it gives the error and mark the status as Exceptional, even the behavior itself was strange because we have activated the same type of board on the same NE before.

Now after consulting with local TAC member, first we have refreshed the NE in tool kit and then checked the status in Navigator, then we have found that on both physical and logical status, the board is not available but actually the LED on the board was working normal and status LED was green, Service was Active.

Then we have plugged out the board for hard reset (Reason is that we have the protection board install in the NE).

And as the board was rebooted the software version was successfully upgraded and there was no lost of services during the process.

(The status was constantly checked through Optix Navigator)

SUBCASE 2: Due to Auto Screen Saver Option in Laptop the up loading package on Toolkit causes NE logout.

Handling Process for Case 2: We have no choice rather to stop the process and do it again, so before doing this- first we have increased the time of screen saver so that we cannot face the problem again.

and after changing the setting the process was restarted and was monitored during the whole up gradation and making the PC operation for the whole activity.

SUBCASE 3: Before activating the new version the SSN2GSCC shows new uploaded version.

Handling Process for Case 3: After successful up loading of software Package file, we have selected standby GSCC to activate first, but what we have noticed is that the running version is changed automatically to the target version, which was quiet disturbing because we have not activated through any command or any option from tool kit.

Now again through TAC consultation, we have checked the status of board through Navigator, then it was noticed that only the Extended BIOS version is changed and for Basic BIOS, FPGA and others are the same as old one.

Now we have manually changed the Basic BIOS, FPGA and others through Navigator by selected board by board software and make it successfully upgrade to the target version.

SUBCASE 4: DCN was visible through the target NE, which was planned to be up graded.

Handling Process for Case 4: For the problem we have three options,

1)  To upgrade from server in NOC.

2)  To Install a Switch on site and get connected from the switch.

3)  To chose another NE nearby it which is connected through fiber and then from that NE start up grading the NE.

We have chosen the third option because on NMS we have no permission to do so, for second option the switch through which it was connected was not accessible and more over we have no extra switch to perform this operation.

Then at last we login on the neighbors NE, create the both the NEs on our T2000 and then started the process of up gradation.

That's all, I welcome everyone to leave a message and exchange in the comment area!
