Ping for Ethernet over SDH (EOS) check Highlighted

HI

Today I want to share a very useful ways used in Ethernet over SDH (EOS) service check.

In our network we use for Management  U2000 V100R006C and the equipment OSN7500/OSN3500 SDH , there are several types and versions of Ethernet boards to be used in these NEs .

-          Ethernet boards support different capabilities according to its type for example EFT doesnt support L2 switching while EFS does .Also according to the hardware version .

-          Ethernet ping is one of the easiest ways for checking (cabling , configuration , connectivity, delay )

1st way :- Ethernet Board IP.

This feature exist in many ethernet boards for Example (N4EGS4 , N1EGSH , N1EFS0A )

-          Easily get to  NE Explore > choose Ethernet board then >Configuration > Board IP address setting

You will find the default value set as (0.0.0.0) and the state (disable) , all what you need is to change the IP of the board to the same as your laptop and change the state to (enable) then try pinging the board .

this feature could be used in 2 directions that means you can ping the local Board to check the cable from the port direction , so if you have EFS board you can connect the Ethernet cable to the configured port then (set the Board IP ) then ping the board.

Also  you can ping the remote Board to check cable , local board , configuration to the destination board , so after you complete creating the service , connect the Ethernet cable to the configured port then (set the Board IP for the remote board ) then ping the board.

The 2nd way of making ping is much better

It is using Ethernet service OAM -ping tool

in the case that both the Ethernet service processing boards of Huawei equipment at two ends support the Ethernet service OAM protocol

You should have some of the OAM basics , but here I will talk only about Maintenance points because they are involved to our subject.

Maintenance point (MP): MPs include MEPs and MIPs

MEP maintenance end points : MEPs function to initiate and terminate all OAM packets

MIP maintenance intermediate points : MIPs cannot initiate OAM packets

From the Ethernet Trail right click then choose (Ethernet Service OAM Management )

In this page you create Ethernet service OAM where you can use several check tools .

start OAM

You should choose NE to be the MP (Maintenance point)

Choose type MEP to initiate OAM

The direction here is (IP) that means to the near Ethernet board direction or SDH that means to the opposite NE .

The result will appear like that :-

Oam

Here you just click right click and choose ping to see this page :

ping page

Insert the IP of the destination and the local IP ( here u can make ping in the middle of service to both directions ) and start to ping test you can check the delay and the connectivity .

I hope that is useful to you .

Best regards
