Hey Everyone,

Hope you doing well.

let me give a small introduction about what is a perpetual license and subscription-based license.

A

Perpetual License:

A perpetual license will allow the customer to use the licensed software indefinitely.

Subscription-based license:

An annual license will allow the customer to use the licensed software for one year and entitle the customer to download all updates to the software and to receive technical support. After the one year period ends, the software will no longer function unless a new license is purchased.

Nowadays most vendors are going with subscription bases licensing.

Meraki is fully subscription-based licensing and we can't use the hardware once the subscription is over.

Cisco introduced subscription licensing on their switching portfolio like DNA.

what are your thoughts on this?

which one do you prefer? perpetual or subscription-based?

and what are the advantages of both?

let's go for a discussion.

Good point
I think A perpetual license is a good choice , because the temp licenses usually are related to hardware , so if motherboard for example had a fault you need to apply for new license .

Subscriptions are for ever changing/updating information like IPS and malware signature or to integrate switches with iMaster to mange through centralized NMS. Also, subscription based licenses reduce the overall cost of solution.
