Definition
Policy-based routing (PBR) allows switches to select routes based on user-defined policies.
Purpose
Traditionally, devices search their IP routing tables for routes of packets based on packets' destination addresses and then forward the packets. To allow switches to route packets based on user-defined policies, PRB can be configured.
Benefits
PBR has the following advantages:
- Allows network administrators to make user-defined policies for routing packets, which improves route selection flexibility.
- Enables different data flows to be forwarded on different links, which increases link efficiency.
- Uses cost-effective links to transmit service data without affecting service quality, which reduces the cost of enterprise data services.
