What are the different positions we can mount outdoor APs at? And what are potential advantages and disadvantages for that?

Hi,

Outdoor APs can be installed in following positions:

  1. Wall side

  2. Overhead

  3. Floor

Generally speaking, outdoor APs are mostly installed on the wallsides. advantages are that APs and terminals are visible to each other in line-of-sight distance, with penetration loss within the allowed range. They are easy to install. and APs are placed in a line. Co-channel APs are far from each other, providing good anti-interference capability.

Overhead APs are easy to install on ceilings with bridleways. APs and terminals are visible to each other in line-of-sight distance, with penetration loss within the allowed range.

For floor range, advantages can be AP signals attenuate due to obstacles. The AP coverage area can be controlled. Therefore, many APs can be deployed to connect more users. APs are deployed at the rear of the terrace, invisible to the users.

I hope it helps.

Hi Hieagle,
Outdoor APs can be installed against a pole or a wall. The installation position is determined according to the site survey.
When determining the AP installation position, comply with the following rules:
1. Do not install the AP in a place with high temperature, dust, noxious gas, or unstable voltage, or in the place near flammable or explosive materials and interference sources such as a large radar station, radio station, and transformer station.
2. Place the AP far away from electronic devices that may produce radio interference, such as other APs, antennas, and other radio communication devices.
3. Install the AP in a hidden position that does not affect the daily lives and work of residents.
4. Make the engineering design by fully considering such factors as hydrology, geology, earthquake, electric power, and traffic. The selected site should comply with the environment design specifications of communications equipment.
