Dear friend!
OUT:Optical Transponder Unit. It is generally used in wavelength division multiplexing applications. The OTU board converts multiple channels of optical signals with the same wavelength into optical signals with different wavelengths and multiplexes the signals into optical signals with different wavelengths for transmission. After the optical signals reach the opposite end, the optical signals are demultiplexed to different fibers. Then, the optical signals are converted to the original wavelengths through the OTU and then sent to the corresponding optical transceiver. The same optical signals that are not converted into wavelengths cannot be directly transmitted through WDM multiplexing.

OTU
1- to insert an optical signal in DWDM system you must first Convert optical signal into one of the DWDM frequency(C band or L band) , so you can multiplex many channels in different DWDM frequencies into one fiber.
The OTU makes this convert to the DWDM frequencies. And do the revers actiin in the receiving side.

2- OTU also enhance signal receiving capability by using FEC (forward error correction) technology.
