Hello, everyone!
In this post, I'll continue to share OTN basics with you.

OTN Evolution Route: MS-OTN (POTN/POTS)![]()
MS-OTN: Multi Service -OTN
POTN: Packet - OTN
POTS: Packet Optical Transport System
POTN&POTS is a subset of MS-OTN, arehybrid transmission equipment facing the All IP era
WDN OTN System Division
OTU(Optical Transponder Unit) board, which can be called as Optical wavelength conversion board: The client service first be packaged, mapping convergence and other processing, output standard optical signals of the WDM system.SDN/SONET、ATM、IP、Ethernet are converted into OTUk(such as OTU1(2.5G)、OTU2(10G)、OTU3(40G)、OTU4(100G)、OTU Flex(2.5G~10G adjustable))signals. There are PluggableOpticalModules(including Client-side(CR) and line side(LR)) on OTU board, Client-side(CR) receive a variety of signals, after conversion, the line side send out OTUksignal.
one outboard can send and receive signals.
OMU&ODU(like Mux/M40/D40): OpticalMultiplexer/Demultiplexer boards, it combines n-wavelength from n OTU boards, and then send out the combined wave. OMU does not insert an optical module, only connected with a single fiber. One OMU can only send or receive waves, can not transmit and receive simultaneously.
Amplifier OA: In the middle of the long-distance transmission, to add some amplifiers for amplifying signals to extend the transmission distance.
Demultiplexer ODU: receive the combined wave, and then restore to the original n-have, send to the OTU service board.
What is OTU(Transponder)?
BER: Bit Error Ratio
3R function: Regeneration, Reshaping, Re-timing
OTU =Optical Transmit Unit, also called Transponder
OTU Converts Client Signals into SpecificWavelength
OTU Principle is based on 10G NRZ/RZ Modulation

- FEC is a widely used coding technique in communication system.
- Basic Principle: FEC is accomplished by adding redundancy to the transmitted information using an algorithm. A redundant bit may be a complex function of many original information bits. The original information may or may not appear literally inthe encoded output; codes that include the unmodified input in the output are systematic, while those that do not arenon-systematic.
