The following lists the differences between manageable and unmanageable devices.
Manageable devices: Supports online configuration modification, online upgrade, device alarm viewing, and device configuration backup and restoration.
Unmanageable devices: Only conference resources are scheduled by the SMC2.0. It does not support online modification, online upgrade, device alarm viewing, and device configuration backup and restoration.

Hello.

Please be informed that the main difference between adding another brand of MCU to the SMC and adding a Huawei MCU is that you can add it to the SMC either as management or unmanagement MCU. You can only add a manageable MCU to the SMC whose IP address you have obtained and also you can also upgrade it via the SMC management platform.

Also there is a management connection established between the MCU and SMC and you can query this connection status directly on the SMC platform.

You can find the configuration guide below on how to add a manageable MCU.

http://support.huawei.com/hedex/pages/EDOC1100016918SEE1219N/12/EDOC1100016918SEE1219N/12/resources/com/VI_cfgg_00001.html?ft=0&fe=10&hib=4.3.5.3.3&id=VI_cfgg_00001&text=Adding%20a%20Manageable%20MCU&docid=EDOC1100016918

In the below link there is the configuration guide on how to add a unmanageable MCU

http://support.huawei.com/hedex/pages/EDOC1100016918SEE1219N/12/EDOC1100016918SEE1219N/12/resources/SMC_cfgg/SMC_cfgg_00016.html?ft=0&fe=10&hib=4.3.5.3.4&id=SMC_cfgg_00016&text=Adding%20an%20Unmanageable%20MCU&docid=EDOC1100016918

A third option on how to add an MCU to the SMC platform is to add it as an auto-detected MCU. This mode applies especially when you must add an MCU whose IP address you do not know.

Here you will find the configuration guide:

http://support.huawei.com/hedex/pages/EDOC1100016918SEE1219N/12/EDOC1100016918SEE1219N/12/resources/SMC_cfgg/SMC_cfgg_00014.html?ft=0&fe=10&hib=4.3.5.3.2&id=SMC_cfgg_00014&text=Adding%20an%20Auto-Detected%20MCU&docid=EDOC1100016918

Please let me know if further information is required or if we can assist you with any other information.

SMC2.0 Networking with VP9000 Series MCUs
The SMC2.0 can work with VP9000 series MCUs, recording servers, HD videoconferencing endpoints, and telepresence systems using the IP connection type. (If the VP9660 or VP9650 MCUs are used, the ISDN connection type is also supported). Enterprise users can deploy MCUs, endpoints, and telepresence systems based on site requirements. The SMC2.0 manages MCUs, endpoints, and telepresence systems in a unified manner and can be used to schedule and control conferences.

Figure 2 shows the network where the SMC2.0 works with VP9000 series MCUs.
Figure 2 SMC2.0 networking with VP9000 series MCUs

The SMC2.0 manages MCUs and recording servers in a unified manner and allocates them based on the conference scheduling policy when scheduling conferences.
Users can schedule conferences on the SMC2.0. On endpoints, users can use SiteCall or dial the unified access number to initiate conferences.
After registering with an SC using both SIP and H.323, an MCU allows both SIP and H.323 endpoints to join the same conference.
During a conference, each participant can use continuous presence per port.
SMC2.0 Networking with ViewPoint 8000 Series and VP9000 Series MCUs
In this network, the MCU resource pool has both ViewPoint 8000 series and VP9000 series MCUs.
If a conference is held on a ViewPoint 8000 series MCU, participants enjoy conference experience provided by the ViewPoint 8000 series MCU. All participants view a fixed continuous presence layout provided by the MCU or are provided with certain fixed continuous presence layouts provided by the MCU. If a conference is held on a VP9000 series MCU, participants enjoy conference experience provided by the VP9000 series MCU. Participants are allowed to select desired continuous presence layouts on their endpoints.
The SMC2.0 selects the matching recording server based on the MCU where a conference is being held. The ViewPoint 8000 series MCUs work only with the recording server CR10. The VP9000 series MCUs can work with the recording servers RSE6500 and CR10. The RSE6500 is recommended.
