Methods of measuring OSNR
-OSNR (Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio ) is one of the most important indicators to determine the signal quality , OSNR is the ratio of the signal power divided by noise power. It remains a key parameter when planning a network, as it’s related to many design parameters such as the number of repeaters, reach, available modulation formats, and so on.
OSNR changes with time because several causes for example repeaters aging or signal power changing .
So operators need measuring OSNR many times not only while commissioning , the methods of measuring OSNR changed with the change of signals rate and modulation .
