HiCoins as reward: 0 (problem unresolved)

Hi there!

I want to ask what are the OSNR high and low threshold values for 10G and 100G( incoming and outgoing ) lambda for OTN 9800 and OSN 6800.

If i am troubleshooting a specific lambda how can I know if the OSNR is upto the mark.

Dear Waqas
The OSNR sensitivity differs according to many parameters like code pattern for example the OTU named LSX used for 10G in 9800 and 6800 there is a version has lowest OSNR sensitivity =16 and other LSX hard version has lowest OSNR sensitivity =13 .

About OSNR calculation it needs alot of pareameters like optical power in each span and NF(noise figure) for each amplifier ... and the value will be approximate not exact .
Please have a look to this Question anout OSNR calculation.

Dear friend!
1. The signal quality is measured not only by the OSNR, but also by the optical power, dispersion, and non-linear effect. Different boards have different performance requirements. Therefore, the OSNR threshold of the board is not defined. If the OSNR value of an optical signal is very high but the optical power is very low, the communication fails.
2. Generally, if the other performance of the optical signal meets the requirements, according to our experience, the OSNR value of the signal is needs to more than 20 dB.
Thank you!

is there any formula to calculate OSNR?

OSNR(dB)= 10lg(Pi/Ni)+10lg(Bm/Br)
Pi: signal power on the i channel
Bm: equivalent noise bandwidth
Ni: noise power introduced within the Bm
Br: reference optical bandwidth, which is usually 0.1 nm
