Lets say OSN 3500 is operating in hybrid mode. Meaning it can accept and send both SDH and packet traffic. When the traffic is sent out of OSN 3500 to the next NE, is it in Packet Domain or SDH Domain ? Or both types of traffic are sent over to the next NE ?

Dear friend!

When SDH line boards and packet line boards are installed between two OptiX OSN 3500s, you can select the type of link to be used for transmission.

Generally, Ethernet services are preferentially transmitted over packet links, and SDH services are preferentially transmitted over SDH links. The reasons are as follows:

1. The greatest advantage of a packet link is that it can flexibly transmit Ethernet services. Even though the CES technology is compatible with SDH services, it can only transmit low-rate SDH services and cannot completely replace SDH services.

2. If Ethernet services are transmitted through an Ethernet board, the Ethernet board encapsulates the Ethernet services into SDH signals and then sends the signals to the SDH link for transmission. The entire configuration process is complex and the construction cost is high.
