Hi guys!!

I would like to share with you an issue about BIOS_STATUS & COMMUN_FAIL alarms on GSCC & EOW boards.

Description:

1) The BIOS_STATUS alarm is shown by the GSCC control module of the SSR2CXLN board that is in "Active" mode. In other words, when executing "Active/Standby Switching" between SSR2CXLN boards (1+1 hot backup), this alarm is transferred from one GSCC control module (active CXLN) to another (standby CXLN) automatically:

  • SSR2CXLN board in slot 4 in "Active" mode (the GSCC control module located in logical slot 82 shows the BIOS_STATUS alarm).

1

  • SSR2CXLN board in slot 5 in "Active" mode (the GSCC control module located in logical slot 83 shows the BIOS_STATUS alarm).

2

2) The BIOS_STATUS alarm displayed by the GSCC control modules tells us in the additional information that “The slot number of the faulty board: 9” as shown below:

3

3) The board located in slot 9 is SSR1EOW04:

4

4) The EOW board has a COMMUN_FAIL alarm:

5

This alarm is declared when the communication between the GSCC control module and another board (in our case the EOW board) has been interrupted.

Therefore, everything indicates that EOW board is in the "power off" state. That is, in this situation it's as if this EOW board wasn't physically inserted in the OSN 1500B equipment.

To verify the latter that has just been explained, proceed to perform the logical deletion of the EOW board from the U2000 and the result is the following:

6

The BIOS_STATUS alarm of the GSCC control module of the R2CXLN board of slot 4 that is in "Active" mode disappears.

Therefore, it seems obvious that problem is already localized to the EOW board.

Solution:

The steps to follow are:

1) Carry out a "Physical Reset" of the EOW board (that is, remove and insert the board again).

  • NOK. After performing this step, the BIOS_STATUS (GSCC control module) and COMMUN FAIL (EOW board) alarms is displayed again.

2) Replacement of the faulty EOW board with a new one.

  • OK. After replacing the EOW board, the BIOS_STATUS and COMMUN FAIL alarms disappear.

7

8

Conclusion: Issue solved.

BR
