Optical power effect on throughput

HiCoins as reward: 0 (problem unresolved)
Hello, does GPON optical power have any effect on throughput, specifically as we approach the maximum receive sensitivity of the ONT/ONU? For example:

assume class B+ optics and a 1:32 split ratio with a cascaded 1:8 and 1:4 design. I wish to offer the option of 1Gb/s service to all clients. For clients that are further away and may have rx power of -25, -26 or -27dBm (ONT max receive sensitivity of -28dBm) will there be an issue with these clients connecting at 1Gb/s? If so what is the minimum rx power that would ensure trouble free gigabit connections?

Thanks.

Dear Shrube!

Generally, the higher the line rate, the higher the required signal quality, and the higher the receive optical power.

For the ONT, if the receiver sensitivity is not lower than the receiver sensitivity, the ONT can be connected to the OLT.

But if the optical power is close to the sensitivity, the signal will be unstable. We recommend that the received optical power of the ONT be greater than the received sensitivity by 3dB and less than the maximum received optical power of 5dB.

Thank you!
