OSN9800 is similar with other WDM equipment Huawei have made, have many types of Mux and Demux boards. Generally, for common used DWDM systems, they can be categorized like this:
1. For muxing and demuxing multiple service wavelengths:
Multiplexer: M40/M40V/M48V, the difference is M40V and M48V has built-in optical attenuator for each channel and can adjust the power of each channel independently, while M40 cannot.
Demultiplexer: D40/D48.
M40/M40V/D40 boards operates in C band 80-wavelengths system, and M48V/D48 operates in 96-wavelengths system.
As they only have interfaces for 40/48 channels, they have additional ODD/EVEN parameter to show whether they work in odd channels or even channels.
2. For muxing and demuxing odd wavelengths and even wavelengths:
ITL board is used for muxing and demuxing odd channels and even channels in an 80-wavelengths system or 96-wavelengths system, cooperates with M40(V)/D40 or M48V/D48 to form the full mux / demux module.
3. For muxing and demuxing service wavelengths and OSC wavelengths.
FIU and SFIU are used for muxing and demuxing service wavelengths and OSC wavelength. The OSC works in wavelengths around 1500nm (varies depends on the type of board), which is used for system management.
The difference of FIU and SFIU is, SFIU use one fiber of the WDM system to transmit and receive the OSC channel, which is very suitable for easier IEEE 1588V2 deployment.
4. Fixed optical add and drop multiplexing Boards:
This type of boards is designed for adding and dropping some wavelengths, and other wavelengths are passed-through. Typical boards of this kind includes, MR2 / MR4 / MR8. The wavelengths these boards can add and drop are fixed when it was manufactured, so the adjusting of wavelengths in the future is limited.
5. Reconfigurable optical add and drop multiplexing Boards.
This kind of board is able to add/drop any single or multi-wavelength signals to/from a multiplexed signal, and route the signals to any port in any order, achieving flexible wavelength grooming in multiple directions. This is essential to build an optical switching network, and we must use them to build an optical ASON network.
Typical boards of this type includes WSMD4 / WSD9 / WSM9 / WSD9 / DWSS20.
More detailed information about these boards can be found in the product document of OSN9800.
