Hello, everyone!
This is a continuation of the article on fiber optics used in the construction of the 5G network. This is the second and last article on this topic. In a previous article, I explained two types of optical fibers (bend insensitive and OM5 optical fibers). I will now explain three more different types of optical fibers. Let's see.
3. Micron Diameter Optical Fibers
The third type of optical fiber is used to allow the installation of a large number of optical cables. In general, this type of optical fiber has great applications. Especially where there are restrictions in the pipes, and where these fibers can be installed due to their small diameter.
The dimensions of the core and the cladding of the optical fiber do not change, they remain the same. The thickness of the primary buffer coating changes. Well-known optical cable company Prysmian Group has produced the BendBright XS 180µm SM optical fiber. In this way, the fiber diameter was reduced from 250 μm to 180 μm.
Another well-known optical cable company, Corning, has produced a smaller diameter optical fiber - SMF-28 Ultra 200 optical fiber. It is a 200 μm diameter optical fiber. There are other lesser-known companies that produce such optical fibers.

4. ULL Fiber with Large Effective Area
Manufacturers have begun to develop optical fiber that will have less attenuation. This will allow further transmission without the use of active elements. The new fiber optic standard is G.654.E. Optical fibers with G.654.E standard are optical fibers with a larger effective area and very low loss features. This type of optical fiber was produced by Corning. In the next table, we can see the main features for different optical fibers.

5. Special optical cables for quick installation
There are different special types of optical fibers and cables that allow fast and reliable installation. These are optical cables with factory-installed optical connectors, cables with special rodent protection, etc. These are full-dry optical cables. They are used in indoor and outdoor applications.
This is the end of this topic!
Thank you!
