Hello
I want to share with you something that I discovered empirically and have searched the literature from both Huawei and other manufacturers and have not seen anything about it.
We are all familiar with the led indicators of the GE ports. Normally there are two LEDs, one green that if it turns on indicates connection and an orange LED that blinks if there is data exchange.

So far the normal thing that we have always seen but I knew that the behavior of the status led depends on whether the link is auto-negotiating or with fixed speed. If, for example, the speed is set to 1000 whenever a signal is received, the led lights up similar to an SDH port, unlike the latter being normally off and red if there is an R_LOS. If the speed is fixed, the led lights green regardless of whether the other end receives a signal or not. On the contrary, if the port is in autonegotiating mode, the status LED only turns green if both the local and remote ports receive a signal if one does not receive the status indicator LED remains off.
The field of application to solve problems is wide, I prefer to set the speed in GE optical ports to quickly detect if there is a problem in an optical fiber line.
Well that's all, comment if you already knew this detail and if you know in the literature where this is mentioned. I hope I have been useful. Have a good day.
