This time, I will share with you a case about ONT hardware security.
ONT products are applicable only to indoor scenarios. If the optical fiber reinforcing rib is not cut off during installation, or network cables and telephone lines are routed outdoors, there is a risk that lightning strikes may cause ONT failures. In addition, if the input voltage fluctuation exceeds the specifications of the power adapter, the power adapter may fail.
Symptom:
The device cannot be started or the network port is damaged. The power adapter has no output voltage, and services are interrupted.
Fault analysis:
The ONT is used in outdoor or semi-outdoor non-standard scenarios, or the power supply of the power grid is abnormal.
1. The reinforcing rib of the optical fiber is not cut off before the optical fiber is led into the house.
2. Network cables and telephone lines are routed outdoors or ONTs are installed outdoors.
3. The input voltage of the power adapter fluctuates greatly because the power grid voltage is unstable and the power cable is not properly connected. As a result, the input voltage of the power adapter exceeds the operating voltage range of the power adapter.
Identification method:
1. The network port cannot be up or the circuit board is black.
2. The power adapter has no output or the shell is damaged.
3. The power indicator of the device is abnormal or cannot be started.
Root Cause
1. The external abnormal energy enters the device through the optical fiber reinforcement rib, network cable, and telephone line. When the energy exceeds the protection capability of the component, the ONT network port circuit and CPU are damaged, and the device cannot work properly.
2. The input voltage of the power adapter fluctuates greatly due to the unstable voltage of the power grid or abnormal power cable connection. If the input voltage exceeds the input specifications of the power adapter, the power adapter fails and the power cannot be output normally.
Problem impact:
Some serious damage will lead to shell deformation, accompanied by a peculiar smell, which makes customers worry about the safety risk.
Actual impact:
1. Abnormal function and performance occur after equipment failure;
2. When the power adapter is damaged, it can not be powered on and the shell is deformed;
3. The damage will only lead to the equipment can not work normally, the failure situation does not spread, there is no safety risk.
Solution:
When we install the product, we need to place it in strict accordance with the scene specified by the product
1. Cut the fiber reinforcement before entering the house.
2. Install ONT in a clean and clean indoor environment, and cables such as network cable and telephone line can not go out of the house.
3. Ensure that the power supply of the adapter is in good contact and the voltage is within the input specification range of the power adapter (see the power adapter nameplate for the input specifications).
