Hello, everyone!
Today, I want to continue to explain a new topic – ODN engineering and maintenance. Now, I will start to explain ODN engineering. Today, the topic is pole civil work construction. Let’s get started.
A very common way to implement an ODN network is aerial installation. This method is especially often used in rural areas. Aerial installation is much faster to realize than all other installations (underground, direct burial and underwater).
Optical cables can be installed on existing poles or new poles need to
be installed. Poles can be wooden, concrete or metal. The distance
between the poles is from 35 to 55 m.
Prior to installing the poles, the locations for the poles should be marked. Obtaining all necessary permits is implied. If new poles are installed, operators usually install wooden poles. There are different heights, most often used from 7 or 8 m. The depth of the pole hole depends on the height of the pole. So for poles 7 m high, the required depth of the hole is 1.2 m.
Care should be taken to transport the poles, store and store the poles. Because wooden poles are sensitive and can be damaged. When digging and installing wooden poles, the diameter of the hole should be slightly larger than the diameter of the pole. A small stone is used between the pillar and the ground, this gives it a hardness. If the soil is swampy or gravelly, concrete is used for new poles. This is only used for new poles. Steel cables are also used to ensure the stability of the columns.
After the installation of the poles, special metal elements are used for the installation of optical cables. There is a special group of optical cables used. These are aerial optical cables, part of the group of loose tube optical cables. The most important aerial optical cables for ODN are ADSS (All-Dielectric Self Support) and Fig.8 (Figure 8).
Typically, ADSS optical cables are used for feeder and distribution optical cables, while drop optical cables are used for Fig8. ADSS optical cables have no metal elements and are very popular. Fig8 has a metal cable that it uses for installation.
This is the end of this article. I will continue to explain this topic in the next article >>ODN Engineering and Maintenance (13).
Thank you!
