NQA test instance packet delay is not the same

Hello all,

An NQA test instance is configured on the S6720 to test the quality of the link between the source IP address 172.16.1.6 and the destination IP address 172.16.1.5.  

The configuration is as follows:

nqa test-instance admin huawei
  test-type icmp
  destination-address ipv4 172.16.1.5
  source-address ipv4 172.16.1.6
  frequency 300
  probe-count 15
  datasize 56
  start now

The NQA test result showed that the network delay was about 20 ms, but the ping test result showed that the network delay was about 2 ms. The two test results differed a lot in the delay value. Why?

Hi,

On S series switches, a ping test and an NQA test instance are two different tasks. They use different methods to calculate the network delay. The delay calculated by a ping task is the period from the time when a physical interface sends an ICMP packet to the time when another physical interface receives this ICMP packet. The delay of an NQA test instance is the sum of the ping time and the CPU processing time. NAQ and CPU processing are involved, and the CPU needs time to process the data packets. Therefore, for the same link, the delay calculated by an NQA test instance is longer than that calculated by a ping test.
