NPIV is short for N-PortID Virtualization. An N-Port ID is obtained after an N-port logs in to a fabric network. NPIV is a host-side technology that virtualizes N ports on physical HBAs on hosts into multiple WWPNs. In this way, physical HBAs on hosts can register their WWPNs with the fabric network, register the virtual WWPN with the network. (The registration action is FDISC. The function is the same as that of FLOGI, but the name is different.) Therefore, one N-port can obtain multiple N-PortIDs. This technology is called NPIV.the storage don't support NPIV by itself , it need host or switch support NPIV
