Node Reset Due to Dirty NVDIMM Data

Latest reply: Mar 29, 2021 12:20:15 116 1 1 0 0

[Problem Description]

The T3000 hardware or server hardware (2288 V3 & 5288 V3) is repeatedly reset after being started.

1. The system can be started and the OS loading page is displayed.

2. Use the KVM to check whether a step is reached and restarts.

3. The system cannot be properly displayed on the OS screen. That is, the system restarts immediately after entering the OS and repeats the operation repeatedly.

[Cause]

Dirty data (multi-bit ECC errors) exists in the NVDIMM. As a result, the system detects multi-bit ECC errors when reading data from the NVDIMM after startup. As a result, the system resets.

NVDIMM dirty data has three symptoms in the system phase. (1. Restart repeatedly. 2. The initialization screen is suspended. 3. The system is started normally and an NVDIMM fault is reported.)

[Location Method]

Check the KVM startup print. If "Machine check events" is displayed, it indicates that MCE occurs. This problem occurs repeatedly.

[Solution]

Restart the system, access the BIOS screen, and delete dirty data from the NVDIMM. Note: Before performing this step, check whether the NVDIMM data of the node can be cleared. It will be carried out after a positive response is received.

1. During the system startup, when the following interface is displayed, press Delete repeatedly.

2. During the startup, the Enter Password dialog box is displayed. Enter the BIOS password to enter the BIOS setup screen. (The default BIOS password for an American or French keyboard is Huawei12#$, and that for a British keyboard is Huawei12€$.)

Choose Security > Clear NvDimm Flash.

3. In the Clear NvDimm Flash? dialog box, select Yes and press Enter.

4. Wait for about 20 seconds and check whether the message Clear NvDimm flash success. Please reboot system! is displayed.

5. If Clear NvDimm flash failed is displayed, data in the NVDIMM NAND flash fails to be cleared. If this problem occurs, contact technical support.

6. Press Enter and press F10. In the dialog box that is displayed, select Yes to save the configuration and restart the node.
