Hello all

I am looking for a router for BGP purpose. Need your help to give oppinion. Budget and power consumption is my concern.

1) Does NetEngine NE05E-SQ with 4GB SDRAM able to fit task below?

- Full routing table from 3 ISP

- IPv4 769K and 70K IPv6 route from each ISP

- Total traffic from 3 IPS is less than 2Gbps

- 30 - 40 peer partner in IX

2) If NE05E-SQ doesnt fit the task, can you recomend me a router that fit the task with Budget and power consumption in mind.

Thank you in advance.

Good day, Nocser!

Unfortunately, NE05E-SQ is not good for your purpose - it is just one unit box that is really not designed to operate with other ISP or IXP - it should receive just a summary route from ther upstream devices - kind of UPE (Underlay PE).

The better choice would be NE08E-S6E. Please also check if your software supports undo peer check-first-as (Cisco command no bgp enforce-first-as) per peer basis. It is important for peering with IXP.

Take care and have a great day!

Hello Mate!

For the purpose of peering with external BGP As and handle full BGP views - it is recommended to use NE40E-X8 sesries, which is designed to be used as ASBR.
Requirements for ASBR.
- Need to use are least V8R10 version to fully support Internet-exchange point peering
- Reach policy features - XPL
- Nigh Memory -
- Anti-DDOS protection
- O&M functionality
- IPv6 support

As the light Model you can try NE40E-X3A - but usually it is used for Route-reflectors or kind of low-level PE in ISP networks.

Take care and have a great day!

Hi Viktor

Thank you for your reply. The router will work as PE for a small network that consist of 10 server rack and 16 class C IP. I am not sure but do I really need to go so high-end?
