MUX-VLAN Configuration Procedure

Hello, everyone!

Today, I would like to share with you the MUX-VLAN Configuration Procedure

MUX VLAN provides a mechanism for controlling network resources through VLANs.

For example, on an enterprise network, enterprise employees and customers can access the enterprise server.

The enterprise requires that employees can communicate with each other, but enterprise customers are isolated from each other.

To allow all users to access the enterprise server, configure inter-VLAN communication. If an enterprise has a large number of users, VLANs need to be allocated to all users who cannot communicate with each other. This consumes a large number of VLAN IDs, increases the workload of network administrators, and increases the maintenance workload.

The Layer 2 traffic isolation mechanism provided by the MUX VLAN enables employees in an enterprise to communicate with each other but isolates enterprise customers.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring a MUX VLAN, complete the following task:

The VLAN is created successfully.

Configuring a Principal VLAN for a MUX VLAN

Context

Ports added to a principal VLAN can communicate with every port in the MUX VLAN.

1

Configuring a Group VLAN for a Subordinate VLAN

Context

A VLAN associated with a group port is called a group VLAN. Group ports in a group VLAN can communicate with each other. In a MUX VLAN, group VLANs cannot share the same VLAN ID with a separate VLAN.

Procedure

1

Configuring a Separate VLAN for a Subordinate VLAN

Context

A VLAN associated with separate ports is called a separate VLAN. Ports in a separate VLAN cannot communicate with each other.

Procedure

2

Enabling the MUX VLAN Function on a Port

Context

After the MUX VLAN function is enabled on a port, the principal VLAN and subordinate VLAN can communicate with each other; ports in a group VLAN can communicate with each other; ports in a separate VLAN cannot communicate with each other.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before enable MUX VLAN function, complete the following task:

The port has been added to only a VLAN. If the port has been added to multiple VLANs, the MUX VLAN function cannot be enabled on this port.

The port has been added to a principal or subordinate VLAN in untagged mode as an access interface.

Procedure

3

Checking the Configuration

Procedure
