MSTP Troubleshooting an Unreachable NE Case4 Highlighted

The Gateway NE Reported that NE Management Exceeded capability limits and some NEs were unreachable.

Issue1: The problem was caused by an oversized DCN that exceeded DCC processing capability.

Issue2: A large group of NEs were unreachable at random but frequent intervals. The affected NE's cycled between disconnected and recover status. Analysis revealed that oversizing DCN is causing an ECC storm, as a result all non-gateway NE's become unreachable.

Solution for both problems is to divide the network in ECC subnets.

Suggestion: Ensure that the DCN size does not exceed NE processing capability.

Case 1: Communication port fails to be found

Case 2: All NEs are unreachable

Case 3: An NE frequently becomes unreachable

Case 4: Some NEs are unreachable
