MPLS rings switching issue + un-sync alarms demystified!
Hello Friends,
Today, I would like to share a long pending issue, that we were getting un-necessary escalations due MPLS switching status issue between NE and NCE.
Issue
Some of MPLS rings were showing switching result as SWITCHED while Alarm status showing NORMAL and there were no alarms found on NE as well.
Product:
Huawei OptiX PTN 3900 / 3900-8
NMS: iMaster NCE-T

Ring Switiching & Alarm at NCE
Analysis
After the link between transmissions nodes (here discussing PTN) recover (after optical fiber restored), the ring protection status on the NE side is restored to the normal state (after the WTR [Wait To Restore] time) and this event is reported to the NCE only once.
If the event is discarded due to some reason such as DCN issue on the upstream network, the event cannot reach the NMS. If the NCE does not receive an event message, it does not notify NCE to update the ring protection status.
Solution
When the ring protection status is refreshed on the NE side, the NE sends the ring protection status event of the current NE to the NMS for three more times after the first state switching event is reported. This prevents the NMS from being notified of the event after the first event message is discarded.
The NMS synchronizes and adapts the events of the ring protection status to update the end-to-end (E2E) ring protection status
This is recommended to upgrade Patch for corresponding PTN 3900/3900/8 is V100R007C; the mainstream version of PTN 7900E-32 is V100R012C00, instead of manual refreshing every time when issue occurs.
These patch will avoid additional effort of manual syncing status
PTN3900/960 V100R007C10SPH127 / V100R007C00SPH120
PTN7900E-32 V100R012C00SPH308
Also NCE iMaster patch version should be NCE V100R019C00CP6025 to improve and optimize the alarm caching mechanism.

Refresh Switching at NCE
It is recommended that you can refresh the ring switch status manually in case of unexpected problems in extreme condition
