Requirements on NE IP in the transmission network:
1. If the IP address of the NE and the IP address of the NMS server are in the same network segment, the communication between the NMS and the NE is normal. In this case, you only need to re-log in to the NE.
2. If the IP address of the NE and the IP address of the NMS server are in different network segments, the communication between the NMS and the NE stops. In this case, set a new IP address for the computer where NMS is installed to restore the communication. Ensure that it is in the same IP subnet segment as the original NE IP. Because of the restriction of the SQL database, after you have changed the IP address of the computer, you must shut down the NMS client/server, restart the computer and start the NMS client/server again.
3. When NE communication parameters need to be configured, you should configure the IP address of the NE before configuring the subnet mask and gateway IP.
4. When you change the IP address of an NE, to ensure normal communication between the NE and the NMS, the network segments of the IP addresses allocated to adjacent NEs must not overlap. For example, there are IP addresses 129.9.1.2/16 and 129.9.1.3/24. The network segment 129.9.0.0 to which the IP address 129.9.1.2/16 belongs contains the network segment 129.9.1.0 to which the IP address 129.9.1.3/24 belongs.
Please note:
1. If the WDM network uses the NE ID to identify NEs, changing the IP address of the NE causes a warm reset on the SCC board, which does not affect services. Therefore, you are advised to apply for a maintenance window.
Changing the IP address of a non-gateway NE causes the NE to be temporarily unreachable (usually 5 to 10 minutes).
Changing the IP address of the gateway NE may cause the NE to be temporarily unreachable (usually 5 to 10 minutes). Note that the IP address is in the same network segment as the IP address of the NMS.
2. If you cannot log in to the NE after you change the IP address of the Gateway NE on the U2000 or NCE. To log in to the NE, delete the original NE and create the NE again.
3. Generally, changing the IP address of an NE does not affect services, but only temporarily affects the communication between the NE and the NMS.
